Look at that beautiful picture of this male Apistogramma trifasciata, a spectacle of nature!
These dwarf cichlids are really beautiful and even little ones, then fit in small to medium sized aquariums, however, advise against sottoi 40 liters ... and should be planted densely, rich vegetation of various kinds, with ravines, hiding, little holes, holes in wood, etc. .
In fact, to lay down in dark places like Apistogramma and small, well then defensible (mica fools!) ... Many times it happens that the female does not even realize you have a male partner much older than her ... and depono in perfect places to defend against Tretti predators ... but TOO!
So the wibble-male does not enter into the cavity and the eggs remain there without being fertilized. :-(

Still, I never held in my freshwater aquarium, but I will try to fill this "gap" with the next setup , trying to get them to behave more or less peacefully with the cichlids , which are a bit 'older, but still Dwarf cichlids are both pretty quiet. I tried to keep cichlids in the past with Borelli and there were no problems ... except that Apistogramma Borelli have been able to breed once before dying, after about a year or so, without a specific reason ...
The Apistogramma trifasciata also seem quite adaptable to different conditions of pH and hardness, I believe, however, to keep the pH of the aquarium always between 6.5 and 7 with KH 2 to 4, not lower.
