Acquariando: fish in the aquarium since 1997

Aquarium and aquarium in my passion for plants, fish and aquatic world

The brackish water aquarium fish eurialini

scatophagus argus I just read a nice, rich and well written by Paul Piccinelli , dedicated to aquariums and saltwater fish, also to "eurialini," that is tolerant to a wide range of salinity.

This type of aquarium, not very common because of the few species that can accommodate them and the Italians were hard to find in stores, are the only breed in which such details as the fish worthily Scatophagus Argus (in photo), the Monodactylus (vague resemblance to the scalar and the marine Platax) or the very nice fresh water puffer fish, the puffer.
And why not also some sort of Killi and Poecilia (clearly making sure not to mix all these ... unless you want to make a killing of Guppetti!).

Personally I have never set up an aquarium salt, but I managed to convince a friend! :-)
A decade ago, not recently, I did put a Tetradon in an aquarium of about 60 liters, set in a very minimalist, with a few leaves on the bottom and some logs cross just as roots immersed in a lake. The effect was not bad ... but unfortunately the maintenance of the aquarium by the friend did not follow my dictates ... I am out of Rome and was a time ... the Tetradon is finally dead after less than 6 months. :-(
The friend, now the affezionatasi Pescetto in question, has left the aquarium ... and I must say that I have done nothing to stop it!

Seahorses born in Riccione. :-)

How beautiful are the Hippocampus? In fact ... maybe they could not appeal to everyone from a purely aesthetic point of view ... they are "strange facts" especially in comparison to the classical form of the fish ...
And they are marine fish and know how they can be colored, however, seahorses have always had a special charm. Their shape is reminiscent of the horses on land and the dragons, have a way to swim around them, especially if we are "unfortunate "Why slow and weak, but their grace is undeniable.
Seeing them in our seas is now a rarity, not impossible but really difficult especially snorkeling, but who has had this good fortune that I will remember for a lifetime!
Luckily there are to help the public aquariums, such as the Overseas Park in Riccione , which celebrates the birth of so many young seahorses! :-)
The best way to enjoy this' is really unusual fish in public aquaria and I recommend not to try to accommodate them in home aquariums, because it is not impossible but it is definitely one of the most difficult fish to breed!
It 's difficult to reproduce in captivity, but it is also difficult to just let them live long, not then in the marine reef aquarium because of the strong current that will not be able to resist.
They fish the waters calm, almost still, and spend their lives hidden in the seaweed.

The main problem lies in power, so that in small aquariums, such as those at home, the only way is frequently administered brine shrimp in large quantities.

The breeding and thus the reproduction of captive seahorses is my dream, along with pipefish are a ball that I was a boy, but after a first attempt at breeding and consequent deaths in a few months, documentatomi years I left this dream, sure that sooner or later you will realize the ideal conditions to make it happen! In practice serves SPACE, which in Rome is not easy ... I always hope in the next house! :-)

The method does not set Vodka!

metodo vodka per coralli colorati e non solo Article on Acquaportal dedicated to the "mythical" Vodka method "for the marine aquarium tropical reef, the method aims to reduce nitrates and phosphates (No3 and PO4).
A few years ago when I had the ' marine aquarium is up and running, I spoke of the use of Vodka in the aquarium , and in general the addition of carbon sources, I am pleased that the "method" is not set, despite the prevalence and wide use of product lines dedicated to the breeding of corals , as Xaqua , ZEOvit and others.
At the time I have to say that the results were excellent.
