Round Terrarium in transformation, have until April 4

With the aim to have it fully functional as an orchid by 4th April ... that is for the weekend where there will be MYTHICAL exposure / market orchids at Monte Porzio Catone !
Here are some pictures of the terrarium dell'Ottavi, size 80x50x60, more or less.

The fund will have 2-3 inches of water and a fan timed to maintain high humidity. The plants will be placed on a network immediately above the water. The side walls have green network on which to hang the "thumbnail" and a couple of fans to provide air circulation and prevent mold.

The lighting is based on PL lamps from 55w, I'll start with one on for 12 hours a day, and I already have another ready if I see the need. But I hope they can do except to keep down electricity costs, already high enough for the ' fresh water aquarium in the living room.

  • Update on Serretta IKEA in the living room

The small greenhouse of Ikea , a kind of miniature greenhouse, home to only 3 plants but it succeeds in preserving a consistently higher moisture inside, compared to the entire living room.
To help this situation, with the aim to keep the humidity above 70% for many hours can, I glued a plastic sheet on the bottom, attaching it to the side walls, so that the drops can return to the bottom without wetting the wood of the frame at the bottom.
Then I sprinkled the bottom with pine bark, a uniform layer of a single piece, then as low as possible, and then put my frame as "aesthetics" of flat stones, cha minimally however also help to keep down the 'moisture.
I then leaned against the back wall panel, a thin cork.

With these additions, "spruzzettando" water merrily in the morning (mixture of purified water aquariums) the cork, the bottom of bark and leaves of plants, the humidity rose to 90% in a few minutes ... then down to 60-65% after 8-10 hours, compared to 45% on average in this house.
In the morning the next meeting to 60%.
I then got into the habit you spray a lot in the morning before going to the office, and return before dinner sprinkle a little 'of water, but not directly on plants.

PS: I bought a terrarium dell'Ottavi, next orchid, to be placed in the bedroom, the furniture INSIDE wardrobe. It will be a show ... but that's another story! :-)

  • Orchids at home: what other kind of hothouse?

We want to keep the aquarium ... and orchiee at home, so we are used to keep "under glass" plants, which is why the hothouse is what comes closest to an aquarium, a paludarium, a terrarium. To be considered a greenhouse hothouse, of varying size, shape and materials, which follow the house maids and day temperatures do feel the orchids and other tropical plants a little 'warmer than night.

Often these battens are placed near the windows, maybe oriientate east or west, while at other times due to logistic host of neon lamps, HQI or HQL to light for well orchids. In many apartments in winter temperatures range between 17-18 ° because of the night of 23-24 days.
The greenhouse is important for the cultivation of orchids (and other tropical plants) because it is a great way to give the plants a lot of the moisture they need. All other home systems and "open" are unlikely to bring the moisture above 60%.

But we can keep and what other orchids to flourish in this type of greenhouses, in addition to notes and conosciutissime phalenopsis, both botanical and hybrid?
Collected material I found at least 2 other important species, Bulbophyllum and the 'Aerangis, who also have needs very similar to Phalenpsis.
But I'll be back to write about, I'm gathering information, names, and especially in terms of purchases at the international exhibition of Monte Porzio Catone, in early April.
