Fungia playing: Mom and her Fungia fungette

Now 3 months ago I purchased a particular specimen of Fungia green ( Coral LPS): the look was and is today very different from the one I had years and years ago , because this is "in play "since before my purchase . In practice, for reasons unknown to me, probably a strong physical trauma, Green Fungia this has started to generate many smaller animals, which remain attached to the main body of growing up to come off naturally. When they want to come off, I am not clear even with the process, however, can peel "floppy" very small (0,5-1 cm in diameter) as is the larger, also 5 cm in diameter.

In the first picture above you can see how it was on the coral brought home, so with all fungette attacked, while in the lower photo you can see how she became after the first "taleazione", ie detachment of some animals from the top.

mamma Fungia - Corallo - Fungia Coral For this reason I prefer, once a month, forcing some Fungia-daughters with tweezers, using gentle tapping side at their base, so that it breaks up and can put it gently on the sand, in an area with little movement (otherwise fly away ... I am very light).
To date there are about 20 small Fungia green with his mother, which fortunately continues to generate other animals immediately after the detachment after only 1 or 2 days of the new tissue is visible through the cracks of the cut, and after 1 month the new animal is outlined, has defined edges and deep green color. I see that now the "new" animal that was born because the fabric is light pink and very fluorescent, so that under the blue LED in the evening stands out so much larger than the other Fungia around him.

Fungia aperte, subito dopo la pappa! It is not the first time I hear about this phenomenon, but it is rare: even though we know this not be the "normal" reproduction of a coral like this (the sexual), it may happen that, instead of dying, though seriously damaged in some way, a Fungia can be transformed in this way, starting to give rise to many other small corals. A sort of "last attempt" to continue his life ... if you can not do is put in terms of freeing other animals, finding favorable conditions, may continue to live peacefully.
I think it goes without saying that if the reason for the death of an animal of this type are the bad conditions in which it is kept in the aquarium, we will definitely NOT a phenomenon of this kind, as it is NOT ALWAYS said that this happens but in good condition ... just to avoid that someone deliberately decides to cut with a knife Fungia healthy to see if it starts to bear children. And 'in fact a fortunate condition, of which I am happy because soon I'll swap my animals as normally happens with the cuttings of the SPS. :-)

Anyone wishing to book up some ... if it were in and around Rome, you know, for my tropical marine aquarium , I'm looking for clams, and other Catalaphyllia LPS and SPS corals, so they are available both for sale and exchange! ;-)

Video Apistogramma Borelli violet ...

A nice video dedicated to Apistogramma Borelli, a South American dwarf cichlid species less known but still relatively easy to find in stores of aquariums also Italians.
In the video you can see

  • the strong dominant purple-blue that makes the body of this fish is very special, a very visible blue-violet, something that lights the color temperature warmer than much less known.
  • quite a fight between 2 males, in full parade with fins unfurled the bright colors, including the special red stripes on the snout
  • the female of A. borelli, deep yellow with typical black stripe on the muzzle, which has laid in a crevice of the root and then defending the little ones when they begin the first day of free swimming

Early juveniles of N. multifasciatus

Insieme dell'acquario che ospita la comunità di N. multifasciatus The small community of Neolamprologus multifasciatus who lives in one of the 2 tanks from 40 liters (LAC RIGHT) are accustomed to the situation, the new home, coming and going of people, many with pebbles and shells (remember that it is precisely the cichlid African conchigliofili).

Already this morning I seemed to see a movement "suspect" in a shell with the entry upside down (ie downwards) ... returned from a fantastic day to Villa Pamphili (picnic in full Ottobrata Roman) and I see the same shell upside down ... and at least 4 small fry that wander nearby! :-)
I immediately jumped into the water a small quantity of brine shrimp peeled (comfortable in these cases), taking care to make them finish just above the "area" of interest. Even some adults, smaller in size, are concerned with the small "things" tumbling, over and above some shrimp is one of the mini-mouths of tiny fish.

avannotto di multifasciatus...piccolino, l'ho circolettato! I'm very happy, it's always nice to see a play in the aquarium. I'm not the first and will not be the last to play Neolamprologus multifasciatus (because come by my Andrea, also a member of CIR ), but it's still satisfying to see these little cichlids (Cichlidae are NOT NANI) to have around the offspring from a few days and anyone who tries to eat them, no tracking for the aquarium as a true community of all these are small fry. :-)
