Aquarium and aquarium in my passion for plants, fish and aquatic world
After over 1 year and a half now since its construction , seems to have found a good method of administration for the ' marine aquarium in the living room , the one with the DSB, and the animals respond well, showing full color and in excellent shape. Too bad about the park lights, lame, only 4 of 39-watt T5 fluorescent tubes + LED strips of blue and purple (previously 6 pipes ...), surely will be improved soon with a nice LED fixture.
Just yesterday I made some tests:
The nitrites I have not measured specifically in the last 6-8 months I have always found "high", ie between 0.02 and 0.05 mgl, although no animals seem to be affected and despite many efforts to lower them (or maybe just make them disappear ...).
These values are obtained through:
I infer from the values reported having to increase the dose of calcium (I use the method BALLING , but I admit to miss a dose ...) and, after increasing the illumination, could also increase the frequency of food given to fish the coral , even a small of phosphates and nitrates to 5 or 10 mgl would not be a problem, and the corals react with greater growth.
(The picture refers to mid-December)
The aquarium in the living room continues to grow. Couple the DSB and with him all the micro-flora and micro-fauna has been almost 8 months old but I do not think one can look very mature. My idea is that it is still about 50% of its process of colonization. I say both in relation to the values which together with the skimmer can hold in the aquarium (nitrite, nitrate, phosphate) for both the aesthetic appearance. It appears that just 50% is "colored" and I live ... the lower parts of the sand layer seem almost virgin.
For months and months I'm looking for some animals that smuova layers deep ... I may have underestimated the problem of finding certain animals, plus the cold winter with shipments from other parts of Italy or from abroad is not recommendable, too risky. I'll wait a few vermocane grow spontaneously, maybe a little one was contained in 3-4 rocks from different aquariums that I put in the tank. Or sooner or later will come right to the DSB snails from my dealer, who in September will not receive more from his suppliers.
The values, measured yesterday, are good, except the nitrites went up a couple of "notches" because, I believe, the death of the last animal in the aquarium bought: Catalaphyllia never a good set. After 10-12 days was virtually destroyed and only at that point, I removed from the aquarium ... maybe a bit 'late, but hope is always the last to die.
Proceed with the method balling for the reinstatement of calcium (use the salts of PREIS, for convenience) with dose to 50%, ie 50 ml of both solutions every day. Change the water became monthly.
I miss the solution for magnesium, which aggiugnerò as soon as possible.
I also added a second spot with another 2 T5 tubes of 39 watts (it can accommodate 3, but I keep it turned on only 2), so I keep from front to back:
I am selling the Fungia green (or swapping with LPS), in order to make room for the next "small" to come.

Finally, after years that I missed, we too have a beautiful analysis of sea salts on the market in Italy, which have much difference from one another, but which many believe are all the same ...
It is 3 pages article / comparison on the popular site Acquaportal analyzing various parameters of 27 different salts sold to create the water in our aquarium ( download table summarizing comparative )
The values are many different, for example the calcium of the '"Optimum Sea" of the WAVE is high (440-540 depending on the test control) while it is very low in the "Meersalz", the salt of the sera (230-260), poor also Magnesium (820-900). As the level of phosphates are all low ... many even to zero, except for the "Red Coral Salt" Red Coral who is scoring even 0.74 mg / l!
